Privacy on Android: Importing a Public Key from a Keyserver with APG

Now that you've set up APG and K9 to allow you to send and receive encrypted and signed emails from your Android phone, you've probably found that you need to import OpenPGP keys. Fortunately, if the keys you need can be found on keyservers, APG can download and import them for you.

Rooting my Phone

As the time left on the warranty on my phone dwindled, I decided it was finally time to void it and root my phone.

This experience was best described as an ordeal, taking me a few hours, and requiring the installation of the Android SDK on my computer (as well as Java) in order to finally root it.
Obviously, there was no one-click solution for the My-Touch Slide.
However, once I had finally rooted it, and subsequently flashed it to Cyanogenmod 7, I found it to be a significant improvement over the orginial firmware on the phone.

Keepassdroid

Recently I wrote up the password manager Keepass. One of the many qualities I praised was the cross platform nature of the program. Keepassdroid exemplifies this point by serving as a version of the program for Android.
Keepassdroid is compatible with the same database format that the main program uses, meaning that you can copy the .kdb file over from your computer to your phone's storage card. The decryption on the phone takes slightly longer than it does on a modern computer, but it is still a decryption time of under a minute.

Andriod, Three Weeks In

Although it has been a relatively short time since I announced my new Android phone, the reality is that today marks the third week since I got it.
As you might expect, going from no phone at all to a smart phone was quite a surprising experience. To be able to pack the power of a netbook into such a small device and have it still be able to function as a computer is no small feat.

One of the nicest aspects of having a smart phone is the easy access to the Internet that it can provide for you almost anywhere you go. No more hoping that a coffee shop has WiFi or having to wait to look up the answer to that nagging question up until you get home.
That being said, the screen is tiny. Due to the scale of the device, many web applications that you normally would access through a browser simple are unusable on the phone's browser, making applications that access the web application's API neccessary, like the Gchat application.

My New Android Phone and eugene_mobile

A couple of weeks ago, my family decided to take advantage of the T-Mobile Father's Day deal, which gave away any phone in the store for each line on a new family plan. The result of this being the MyTouch Slide, one of T-Mobile's offerings, that I currently hold in my hands.
